Peter Scupelli

Peter teaches undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students. His teaching is centered on three areas: (a) Design Futures, (b) Interaction design for environments and complex systems and (c) design for societal-level sustainability, focused on two fundamental topics necessary to bring aspects of accomplishing Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

First, in the area of Design Futures, courses taught include: 51.150 Personal Futures, 51.176 Design Studies: Futures (undergraduate),  51.784 Design Futures (masters), 51.974 Design Futures (doctoral).

Second, the interaction design courses for environments and complex systems are: 51.265 Environments Design Studio 1, 51.480 Senior Capstone Project, and 51.712 Graduate Design Studio 2.

Third, in the area of societal-level sustainability courses, Peter teaches his students to align short-term design action to long-term vision goals to accomplish SDGs. In the Dexign Futures courses, students learn to combine Design Thinking with Futures Thinking to align short and long-term time horizons. 

In the Sustainability-centered courses (e.g., Design Ethos and Action, Design for Climate Change, and Design for Zero-Carbon Lifestyles), he teaches how to embed values such as gender equality and sustainability into everyday life, organizations, and redirect design practice towards sustainment.
