BIO
Deepa Nair is a historian of Modern South Asia specializing in the intersection of politics, religion, education, and identity formation in modern India. Her research primarily examines the effect of ethno-religious nationalism on minorities and its role in the process of nation-building within secular India. Dr. Nair’s teaching interests cover the history and culture of South Asia; imperialism, decolonization, and nationalism; contemporary issues of politics, religion, and gender; the legacies of the British Raj (including Partition); and the transnational aspects of globalization, media, migration, and the South Asian diaspora. Before her appointment at CMU-Q, she taught at the University of Central Florida and Appalachian State University in North Carolina.
