Nynke Niezink

Nynke Niezink is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Statistics and Data Science and an affiliated faculty member of the Heinz College of Information Systems and Public Policy. She received her PhD in Sociology from the University of Groningen, The Netherlands, in 2018. Prior to that, she received a master's degree in Applied Mathematics, a research master's degree in Behavioral and Social Sciences, and undergraduate degrees in Mathematics and Pedagogical Sciences.

Dr. Niezink's main methodological research interests include statistical inference for social network data (longitudinal modeling, multiplex networks, relational event models, etc.) and social science and humanities data broadly (pairwise comparisons, text data, etc.). Her areas of applied interest include education, health sciences, organization, sociology, and criminology. Her research has been supported by an NSF MMS Award, a Russell Sage Foundation Small Grant, and various NIH grants, amongst others.

Dr. Niezink is a core member of the Institute for Complex Social Dynamics, housed in CMU's Dietrich College of Humanities and Social Sciences. She currently serves on the editorial board of Statistica Neerlandica, on the CMU Open Science & Data Collaborations advisory board, and as a board member of the International Network for Social Network Analysis (INSNA).
