BIO

Professor Oliver Hahl currently serves as the Senior Associate Dean for Education at the Tepper School of Business, Carnegie Mellon University. Professor Hahl has been on the faculty at Tepper since 2014. His research focuses on perceptions of authenticity, status, capability, and commitment in uncertainty or contexts defined by limited information. He has applied insights from an economic sociology lens to contexts as diverse as sports, behavioral health, private equity, art, luxury goods, and politics. He served as the OBT Group Head of the PhD Program from 2017-2024. He has developed and delivered courses in the BBA, MBA, and Executive Education programs on Strategy and Innovation in Organizational & International Management, including International Management Capstone Course for MBA and BBA students. His courses use Economic, Organizational, and Sociological approaches to help students develop frameworks around organizational growth (M&A and Innovation), organizational design, and human capital management. He received his Ph.D. in Management from MIT’s Sloan School of Management, his MBA from Yale’s School of Management, and his BA in Economics from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Before returning to academia, he worked for ABB, Ltd. in various locations in the US, Switzerland, and Brazil. He speaks Korean and Portuguese fluently and lives in Fox Chapel, PA, with his wife and six children.
