TEACHING INTERESTS
I firmly believe that teaching and scholarship are complementary. Thus, I bring my research into the classroom, whether teaching at the undergraduate or graduate level. In doing so, I have found that through course preparation, delivery, and subsequent discussion with students, I am inspired to consider my research in new and different ways. Further, introducing students to current research enhances engagement relative to classes comprised of readings or materials drawn strictly from a textbook. The benefits of synthesizing research and teaching work both ways. I also strive to incorporate current events that are relevant to course content. In the courses I teach for Tepper, “Sustainable Business” (MBA), “Energy Policy and Economics” (MBA) and “Sustainability, Energy, and Environmental Economics” (UG Econ), I begin each class meeting with an “in the news” segment. On certain occasions, the discussion that ensues comprises an important aspect of students’ classroom experience.
