BIO

Melissa is a Distinguished Service Professor of Marketing and Corporate Entrepreneurship at the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon University, teaching both graduate and undergraduate courses in Integrated Marketing Communications, New Product Development, Innovation, Launching New Products, Product and Brand Management and Brand Strategy.

 

She is active in multiple programs with the Swartz Center of Entrepreneurship, including the Corporate Start-Up Lab, which conducts research and develops tools to help companies better adapt and integrate entrepreneurial best practices into their own innovation practices, helping leaders better encourage entrepreneurship and manage their innovation portfolios. For CSL, Melissa leads the capstone course on corporate entrepreneurship, in which interdisciplinary teams of graduate students across the university partner with large companies to test and develop innovation solutions. The CSL is a Swartz Center-Tepper initiative.

 

Melissa also teaches courses for the Masters of Innovation for Products and Service (MIIPS), part of the Integrated Innovation Institute; and, the Master’s in Engineering & Technology Innovation Management program, an initiative of the College of Engineering.

 

As a seasoned corporate executive, Melissa’s vast experience boasts an impressive list of companies and campaigns with worldwide recognition. President of her own consulting firm, Melissa works with a variety of clients to solve their business needs.  She also conducts numerous speaking engagements and workshops. 

 

She has been recognized with the “Best Executive” Award from internationally-acclaimed Stevie Awards for Women in Business; a Pittsburgh Business Times Women in Business Award; and, a Greater Pittsburgh ATHENA Award finalist.  In honor of Women’s History Month, Melissa also received a City of Pittsburgh Proclamation for outstanding achievements, deeming it “Melissa Murphy Day.”
