John Stamper

I am a member of the faculty at the Human-Computer Interaction Institute at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA. I am also the Technical Director of the Pittsburgh Science of Learning Center DataShop.
I earned my PhD in Computer Science at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. My main area of research is focused on using "Big Data" from educational systems to improve learning. I generally publish in the areas of intelligent tutoring systems and educational data mining. I am also the lead researcher behind DataShop, which is the largest open repository of log data from learning systems. My PhD advisor was Dr. Tiffany Barnes. Prior to starting my PhD, I spent over ten years in the business world. Although I am still consulting, my most recent major position was Vice President of Development for VSI Technolgies, Inc. During this time I earned my MCSE (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer) and MCDBA (Microsoft Certified Database Administrator) certifications. Recently, I have been involved in creating a new startup called TutorGen, which is looking to help build intelligent tutoring capabilities for existing educational technologies with the use of big data.
