In 2011, I made the significant shift from a split appointment in Pittsburgh and Qatar to a full time in Doha. My relationship with Carnegie Mellon University began in the previous century (1999 to be precise) first as an Adjunct Instructor, then Visiting Lecturer, then Lecturer, which became Assistant Teaching Professor and finally Distinguished Career Professor, the position I currently hold. Along the way, I also created the administrative role of QBA Program Director which became Associate Area Head of QBA. Through this run of titles and responsibilities, I can identify a clear throughline: helping Carnegie Mellon business students to harness the power of their education for academic and professional success. In this next phase of my career, as I step back from administrative responsibilities and step fully forward to teaching and service opportunities, my purpose remains clear: I teach communication to the undergraduate students of the Qatar Business Administration Program to provide them with a set of skills, and the tools to further develop those skills, that will help them succeed in their paths through their business education and into their careers as managers.
