BIO

Mohsen Foroughifar is an Assistant Professor of Business Technologies at the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon University. He earned his Ph.D. in Quantitative Marketing and Economics from the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto, and holds an M.Sc. in Economics and a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Tehran.

 

Mohsen’s research focuses on algorithmic pricing, digital advertising, and the adoption of AI tools in consumer marketplaces — topics at the intersection of technology, economics, marketing, and public policy. His doctoral dissertation, which examines the challenges of deploying AI-driven pricing on platforms like Airbnb, has been nominated for and awarded several prestigious awards, including the Sheth Foundation ISMS Doctoral Dissertation Award, the ASA Statistics in Marketing Doctoral Dissertation Research Award, the MSI Alden G. Clayton Doctoral Dissertation Proposal Award, and the Shankar-Spiegel Dissertation Proposal Award.

 

His work has received funding from multiple competitive research programs, including the BI-Org Research Grant, the TD Management Data and Analytics Lab Research Grant, and the BEAR Research Award. Mohsen’s ongoing research contributes to the understanding of the effects of regulations on sharing economy platforms, advertising markets, and how AI systems affect pricing strategies, market efficiency, and consumer outcomes — issues of national and economic significance in the digital age.
