BIO
Gaoqing Zhang joined the Tepper School of Business in 2023 and currently holds the title of Heinz Professor of Accounting. He also serves as the founding co-director of the Accounting & AI Lab at the Tepper School of Business, Carnegie Mellon University.
Professor Zhang’s research examines the real effects of accounting measurements and disclosures, particularly within the financial industry, as well as the design of accounting standards and disclosure regulations. His recent work focuses on the application of artificial intelligence to accounting problems and the computational analysis of double-entry bookkeeping graphs.
He serves on the editorial boards of The Accounting Review and Accounting Open, and his research has appeared in leading academic journals, including the Journal of Accounting and Economics, Journal of Accounting Research, Management Science, and The Accounting Review. His work has been presented at top universities worldwide, such as Stanford University, the University of Chicago, Columbia University, the University of Hong Kong, and Tsinghua University, and has been featured in major media outlets including The Wall Street Journal, Risk Magazine, and Bloomberg.
Before joining Tepper, Professor Zhang was the Honeywell Professor of Accounting at the Carlson School of Management, University of Minnesota. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Finance from Fudan University in 2009 and his Ph.D. in Accounting from the Tepper School of Business, Carnegie Mellon University in 2014.
