David Major

Dr. David L. Major, Ph.D. is Associate Dean for Engagement & International Partnerships and Teaching Professor of Strategy in the Carnegie Mellon University Tepper School of Business

As Associate Dean, Dr. Major provides vision, strategic direction, coordination, and engagement throughout the Tepper School and drives efforts across academic programs to recruit, develop, and retain faculty, staff, and students. He leads the school’s efforts in the development of strategic international partnerships.  In addition to senior administrative leadership, Dr. Major is an active member of the faculty, teaching undergraduate, graduate, and executive education courses in strategic management and intercultural negotiations. 

Prior to Tepper, Dr. Major was on the faculty of the University of Miami Herbert School of Business where he served concurrently as Global Chair of OneMBA (a multi-country consortium of executive MBA programs), inaugural Academic Director of HBCU-Start entrepreneurship immersion program, and Chair of the Faculty Senate E&I Committee.  Notably, he was the recipient of the Excellence in Teaching Award for graduate teaching. Dr. Major also served previously on the faculty at Indiana University Kelley School of Business, doing award winning research in the areas of Strategic Management and Entrepreneurship. He has given invited talks and presentations of his research in sixteen countries across the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Africa.

Dr. Major joined academia after a decade working in corporate America. He held leadership positions in manufacturing management at General Motors and in management consulting at PWC and Gibson & Associates. Dr. Major received his Ph.D. from the University of Maryland College Park Smith School of Business and holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from Carnegie Mellon University.
