Haoyong Lan is the STEM faculty librarian to the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Machine Learning Department, CMU-Silicon Valley, CMU-Africa, and the Office of International Education. His work sits at the intersection of AI literacy education, evidence synthesis methodology, and engineering librarianship. He co-leads the CMU Libraries' AI Literacy Task Force, teaches credit-bearing generative AI literacy in evidence synthesis courses, and built Scottai, the CMU Libraries' AI reference chatbot. He received a Doctor of Education in STEM Education degree from the University of Pittsburgh, a Master's degree in Library and Information Science, and a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, both from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His research interests include AI literacy, prompt engineering, conversational AI, digital library, and information retrieval.
